150th Anniversary - Passaic Bio

Located in the State of New Jersey, The City of Passaic originated from a Dutch settlement on the Passaic River established in 1678. The settlement was named Acquackanonk and is one of the oldest cities in New Jersey. Originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans before European settlement, the City of Passaic was incorporated in 1873 and was named after the Passaic River, which flows through the city.

Passaic's location on the Passaic River made it an important center for trade and commerce.
